78/25 An Exemplary Convocation at Ghazi University: A Triumph of Leadership, Community, and Vision

On April 26, 2025, the second convocation of Ghazi University, Dera Ghazi Khan, transpired as not just a ceremonial rite of passage for graduating students but a masterclass in leadership, community spirit, and institutional pride.

The occasion, graced by the Federal Minister for Energy, Sardar Owais Ahmed Khan Leghari, reflected a sense of maturity and aspiration that many young institutions strive for but few achieve. Established in 2014, Ghazi University's journey has been persevering and progressing steadily. It bears mentioning that Professor Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar, who then served as Vice Chancellor of the Islamia University Bahawalpur, was the founding Vice Chancellor entrusted with planting the seeds of this institution. His efforts and those of others who followed set the groundwork for what was celebrated this weekend.

After acting appointments and interim leadership, the university saw significant growth under Prof. Dr. Muhammad Tufail, whose four-year tenure ending in 2022 was marked by academic expansion and increased student enrollment. Today, under the stewardship of Prof. Dr. Ashfaque Ahmad, a world-renowned climatologist and passionate advocate for environmental stewardship, Ghazi University is entering a new chapter grounded in excellence, humility, and service.

It was particularly notable that Prof. Ashfaque Ahmad chose not to spotlight his contributions but instead elevated his predecessors and colleagues, allowing the university's collective spirit to shine. In a ceremony attended by nearly ten Vice Chancellors from across Pakistan, Ghazi University was the first to see such a high number of academic leaders.

The arrangements spoke volumes about the leadership style now guiding the university. Flawless organization, seamless hospitality, and a palpable pride were evident at every turn. Faculty and staff members extended warmth and professionalism to all guests, a Southern hospitality that left an indelible impression on visiting dignitaries. One Vice Chancellor captured it best when he remarked, "Congratulations, Ghazians, you have left an unforgettable impact with your great professionalism and warmth."

Among the many thoughtful gestures was the heartfelt recognition of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar, whose foundational efforts were acknowledged with due reverence. Meeting with the local media, Prof. Mukhtar, emphasized the critical role of proactive journalism in advocating for education and social development, a message resonating far beyond the university's borders.

Much credit for the convocation's flawless execution is owed to Prof. Dr. Arshad Munir Laghari, whose diligence and attention to detail ensured that no aspect of the event fell short. Dr. Muhammad Ali Tarar and his colleagues worked tirelessly to make the guests' stay memorable. A dinner held by the university's scenic waterfall, serenaded by local DG Khan artists and orchestrated under the able guidance of Prof. Dr. Rashida Qazi, brought a beautiful close to a day steeped in meaning and achievement.

This convocation was more than a ceremony; it celebrated an institution's spirit and the people who built it with devotion. It offered a model for how universities should honor their histories, communities, and future leaders.
