Pakistan’s Higher Education Commission (HEC), in partnership with the STEM Careers Program and the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), has launched a nationwide Talent Hunt Program designed to discover and develop the country’s most promising young minds.

The initiative, targeted at students from pre-9th through 11th grades, aims to inspire pride and motivation by channeling promising talent into the prestigious International Science Olympiad circuit, an arena long dominated by a handful of nations. Officials describe the program as a strategic investment in human capital, designed to position Pakistan more competitively in global science and technology.

Selected participants will receive fully funded training and opportunities for international representation, along with incentives that highlight the program’s commitment to recognizing talent. These include direct admission pathways into leading institutions such as PIEAS and IST without entrance examinations, scholarships covering up to 100 percent of tuition, monthly stipends of up to Rs. 35,000, and cash awards of up to Rs. 500,000 for top performers.

“This is not merely a competition; it is a national pipeline for scientific excellence,” a senior HEC official noted, highlighting how previous participants have advanced to prominent scientific careers, exemplifying the program’s long-term impact on Pakistan’s research and innovation ecosystem.

Eligibility criteria require students to have at least 60 percent marks in science subjects, ensuring both accessibility and merit. The application deadline is May 30, 2026, and registrations are open through the official STEM portal, inviting students to seize this opportunity.

Beyond its immediate incentives, the initiative signals a broader shift in Pakistan’s educational priorities towards merit-based opportunity, global engagement, and the cultivation of intellectual capital in a rapidly evolving technological world.
