On April 30, 2025, the National Skills University Islamabad (NSU) students demonstrated technical brilliance and the growing intellectual maturity of a new generation. At the prestigious NUMLogic2025 competition hosted by the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) in Islamabad, NSU's Ms. Hiba Fatima and Mr. Ali Ahmad clinched the first prize in the Programming Competition, cementing their university's place at the apex of Pakistan's computing education landscape.
NUMLogic2025 is not a casual college-level gathering. It is a national stage that welcomes undergraduate students from across Pakistan in diverse categories, including programming, quizzes, poster design, and the increasingly vital Ideathon Challenge. This year's theme, aligned with the URAAN Pakistan initiative and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), challenged students not just to code but to think, innovate, and lead.
The Ideathon Challenge, in particular, called upon students to pair technical skills with social insight, crafting ideas that answer the urgent needs of a transforming nation.
According to Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar, the National Skills University's Founding Vice Chancellor, aptly noted, this moment is a result of sustained institutional excellence. His congratulations were not only for the students but also for the visionary leadership of Dr. Saud Altaf, Chairperson of the Department of Information Engineering Technology, including the faculty, whose commitment to preparing students for the frontier of technology is paying visible dividends.
However, what sets NSU apart is not merely its capacity to win competitions; it is its foundational philosophy. The university, recognized by global institutions like UNESCO-UNEVOC and the European Training Foundation through the ISATCOVE project, is emerging as a Center of Excellence for skills education in the Global South. In a nation often riddled with educational inequities, NSU is becoming a blueprint for how emerging economies can leverage skills-based education to bridge gaps and drive sustainable development.
Dr. Mukhtar's message to Dr. Noman Malik, Dean of Engineering and Computing at NUML states, "Heartiest congratulations to you and your dedicated team for the outstanding organization of NUMLogic 2025 at the National University of Modern Languages (NUML), Islamabad. The event was a shining example of academic excellence, creativity, and the spirit of healthy competition among Pakistan's brightest young minds in computing and engineering. Your leadership and vision have created a platform that showcases student talent and aligns their potential with national initiatives like URAAN Pakistan and the global Sustainable Development Goals. Such thoughtful integration of technology, innovation, and societal impact is commendable and reflects the high standards of your faculty."
The NSU Vice Chancellor also appreciated NUML's senior leadership for fostering an environment that encourages interdisciplinary learning and national engagement. Their continued support and commitment to academic excellence are visible in the success and reputation of events like NUMLogic2025.
In his concluding thoughts the NSU Vice Chancellor said "Let this victory serve as more than a news brief. Let it remind us that where vision meets investment, where students are challenged with hand on experience rather than remembring things, and where leadership is bold enough to believe in youth, excellence becomes not a miracle but an expectation. In an era where technological fluency is the new currency of progress, a moment of triumph by young minds of the National Skills University Islamabad in Pakistan is a powerful reminder of what is possible when ambition meets opportunity".
