09/21 NSU Celebrates World Youth Skills Day 2021

Aligning with the Vision of the Prime Minister’s Hunarmand Pakistan Program, first time in the history of the country, the World Youth Skills Day was officially observed by the National Skills University Islamabad in the year 2020. His Excellency President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan endorsed this initiative with his message for the country’s youth. Keeping its traditions, the NSU will be celebrating World Youth Skills Day 2021 along with the UNESCO/UNEVOC network members of the world. This year World Youth Skills Day focuses on the idea of "Reimagining Youth Skills Post-Pandemic."

The National Skills University Islamabad (NSU) was established in 2018 by upgrading the National Institute of Science and Technical Education (NISTE). The NSU carries the excellence of its predecessor institution in vocational education and is one of the first institutions recognized by the UNESCO International Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training in 1995.

According to a statement by the National Skills University’s Vice Chancellor, this year, the UNESCO-UNEVOC World Youth Skills Day focuses “on the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work and entrepreneurship. Under the theme Reimagining Youth Skills Post-Pandemic”.

The NSU will observe this day by celebrating the resilience and creativity of Pakistani youth through the coronavirus pandemic. The university has gone a step forward by incorporating inclusiveness by inviting an eight-year-old Ibrahim Haider student of class 5 as a keynote speaker. Ibrahim is blind since birth and a symbol of hope for the less-abled youth community. Other event speakers include two Pakistani young students who won the Diana Award 2021, Ayesha Shaikh, and Muhammad Asim Masoom Zubair. Prof. Mukhtar, Vice Chancellor of the National Skills University Islamabad, will provide an insight into the ways and requisite skills to succeed in the COVID-19 era.

The session will be presided by the Executive Directors of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and Vice Chancellor of the Kohsar University Murree and the Executive Director NAVTTC will be the guests of honor.
