The life of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) offers humanity a timeless model of love, compassion, honesty, patience, and respect. His exemplary character shows that sincere love for the Holy Prophet ﷺ must be reflected in how we speak, how we treat others, and how we maintain relationships within families and society. These values were at the heart of the National Seerat Conference organized by the Department of Islamic Studies at the University of Southern Punjab (USP), Multan. Dr. Muhammad Tahir Khakwani, the keynote speaker, highlighted the enduring relevance of Seerat-e-Tayyaba in shaping individual character and building a peaceful, morally responsible society.

In his keynote address, Dr. Khakwani emphasized the importance of understanding the life of the Holy Prophet ﷺ and following his example in daily life. He highlighted three fundamental dimensions of Seerat-e-Tayyaba: Muhabbat-e-Rasool ﷺ (love for the Prophet), Ittiba-e-Rasool ﷺ (following his teachings), and Uswa-e-Hasana ﷺ (adopting his exemplary character). He stressed that love for the Prophet becomes meaningful when it inspires people to practice his teachings and embody the noble qualities that distinguished his life.

Drawing on the moral lessons of Seerat-e-Tayyaba, Dr. Khakwani stressed the importance of speaking the truth, avoiding lies and backbiting, refraining from hurting others with words, keeping promises, and speaking well of fellow human beings. He underscored that the teachings of the Holy Prophet ﷺ encourage compassion, forgiveness, patience, and consideration for others' feelings and dignity.

The keynote address delivered an important message: love for the Holy Prophet ﷺ should not be confined to words and ceremonial expressions; it should be evident in our conduct, conversations, and treatment of others. The Prophet’s life offers a comprehensive model for building relationships grounded in trust, compassion, respect, and mutual understanding.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar, Rector of the University of Southern Punjab, and Mian Saqib Nazir Ahmad co-chaired the conference. Prof. Dr. Abdul Quddus Suhaib, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, delivered the inaugural address.

Dr. Suhaib particularly highlighted the Prophetic message of truthfulness, kindness, humane speech, and the art of maintaining respectful human relationships. He explained that honesty builds trust, kind words bring people closer, respectful communication preserves human dignity, and sincerity strengthens the bonds that unite families and communities.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar began his speech with his concluding remarks.

کی محمد سے وفا تو نے تو ہم تیرے ہیں

یہ جہاں چیز ہے کیا لوح و قلم تیرے ہیں

It was followed by an emphasis that maintaining good relations with relatives, neighbors, colleagues, and members of the wider community is an essential expression of good character. Avoiding unnecessary criticism, refusing to spread falsehoods, resolving disagreements peacefully, and helping those in need are practical ways to bring the spirit of Seerat-e-Tayyaba into daily life.

The speakers emphasized that reviving moral values is essential to Pakistan’s social, economic, and institutional progress. They observed that academic achievement and professional success become more meaningful when paired with integrity, empathy, justice, and a strong sense of social responsibility. Universities therefore play a vital role in nurturing graduates who combine professional competence with ethical leadership and respect for humanity.

This conference reaffirmed the timeless relevance of the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ: loving him means striving to follow his example by speaking truthfully, treating people kindly, honoring promises, protecting others' dignity, and preserving relationships through sincerity and compassion. By putting these values into practice, individuals and institutions can help build a more peaceful, trustworthy, and humane society.
