The University of Southern Punjab (USP) observed Youm-e-Tashakur on Friday, hosting a series of events to express gratitude to Pakistan's Armed Forces for their service and sacrifices.
The day began with a technical session on "The Role of Media in the Morale Building of Pakistan Army." Senior journalists and academicians participated in the session, engaging students and faculty in a thoughtful discussion on the relationship between media and military morale.
Among the key speakers were Prof. Dr. Malik Adnan, Chairman of the Department of Mass Communication at Islamia University, Bahawalpur; Mr. Shafqat Abbas Malik, General Manager at PTV Multan Center; Mr. Jamshed Rizwani, Editor of South Today; and Mr. Nauman Khan from Dunya News Multan. Each speaker emphasised the media's critical role in fostering public support for the armed forces, particularly during times of national challenge.
"The Pakistan Army remains a cornerstone of our national security," said Prof. Dr. Malik Adnan. "It is imperative that institutions, media, and the public join in recognising their contributions not only in defending our borders but also in safeguarding our future."
Following the session, a symbolic flag-raising ceremony was held on campus, drawing students, faculty members, and administrative staff together in patriotic solidarity. Participants offered prayers for the martyrs who laid down their lives in combat and during unprovoked aggression.
Throughout the day, chants of support for the military echoed across the university grounds, with students and staff enthusiastically expressing their appreciation.
The university's leadership noted that observing Youm-e-Tashakur is a matter of national duty and a gesture that strengthens the bond between citizens and their defenders.
"This day is a solemn reminder that our peaceful lives are built on the sacrifices of our soldiers," said one faculty member. "It is a small way to say thank you, but a meaningful one nonetheless." The events concluded with renewed calls to continue honouring the armed forces through education, responsible media coverage, and unwavering civic respect.
